Preventing Technological Ignorance: UNDIP Team II Community Service Students Introduce Parenting Control Feature Through Google Play App

The work program, led by Ulayya Putri Anggraini, an Indonesian Literature student from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, is integrated with the Google Play app. The introduction of the Parenting Control feature is an effort to improve digital literacy in children. This was conveyed by the UNDIP Team II Community Service students while participating in the TP PKK (Family Welfare Movement) forum in Mancasan Village at the Mancasan Village Hall, Baki District, Sukoharjo Regency, on Thursday (July 18, 2024).

The goal of this activity is to reduce the problem of technological incompetence among parents, especially mothers. The participants’ enthusiasm for the students’ presentations is believed to have fostered parental understanding of the wise use of technology, which can be passed on to their children through digital supervision. The Parenting Control feature is designed to help parents manage and monitor their children’s digital activities more effectively.
The program’s objectives include various activities, including seminars and in-person training sessions on activating the feature, which can only be operated on Android-powered mobile phones. Based on this work program, it is hoped that parents will become more confident in facing technological challenges and be able to implement better supervision of their children’s digital activities. With these initiatives and innovations, UNDIP’s Community Service Team II students are not only contributing to the development of the community’s digital skills but also supporting the creation of a safer online environment for children.
“Oh, it’s like this, miss… this means it can prevent downloading online gambling apps and sex games, right, miss? Thank you,” said Ms. Sujirah. The activity received a positive response, with many participants expressing gratitude and recognition for the students’ efforts in improving their knowledge of digital control. It is hoped that this work program can serve as a model for similar programs in the future and help bridge the technology gap between parents and children.
